Well – we did it!
Brockwell Park Community Partners’ Biodiversity Group was awarded the third prize in the ‘London in Bloom’ meadow section for its wonderful wildflower slope by the Lido. London in Bloom judges all of the wildflower areas in London.
This is amazing for BPCP – and a first for us – as we had no experience of preparing and delivering a wild flower meadow, in particular over such a large area.
But lovely as it is to get this award – the real pleasure was in seeing and hearing how much people enjoyed it.
And to our surprise, we were sent donations from visitors who wanted to say thank you. The wildflower slope was photographed, tweeted and re-tweeted many times. We had regular admirers who stopped to ask questions and pay compliments.
The idea for the project came from BPCP’s new Secretary, Susy Hogarth, and the planting was co-ordinated by Brockwell Park Education Officer, Theresa Hoare, with local volunteers. The news comes in an winning year for Brockwell Park, following its Green Flag Award and Street Design Award for Children’s Play.
