The Brockwell Hall restoration begins

The Brockwell Hall restoration begins, just a bit late.

Due to start in autumn 2022, the restoration kicks off this month with a projected completion date of autumn 2024 (we aren’t holding our breath).

The contractors have moved in and the Hall is heras-fenced off. There are cafe services from two trucks behind the stage area.

Once completed the Hall will be fully disability compliant, one of BPCP’s main aims, and the public will have full access to the ground floor rooms of the main building for the first time in many, many decades. Rooms on the first floor will be hireable by the community and the general public.

At the end of July there was a “hard hat” visit for councillors attended by Cllr Rezina Chowdhury, Cabinet member for sustainability (which includes parks)Cllr Jim Dickson and Cllr Deepak Sardiwal representing Herne Hill ward and Cllr Adrian Garden (Brixton Rush Common ward). Malcom McGregor, PRS Architects and members of the Brockwell Hall Steering Group all lined up for a last look at the old Hall.
