We are delighted to report that Brockwell Park was well represented at tonight’s Lambeth Community Awards.
Hosted by The Worshipful Mayor of Lambeth, Cllr Ade Aminu, (pictured, right), the Awards ceremony marks all that is good in Lambeth’s voluntary and community sector.
Adrian Martin, head coach of park stakeholder group Brixton BMX club won the ‘Keeping Lambeth healthy community award’. Adrian has nurtured local talent to help produce regional, national, European and world BMX champions. Through Adrian’s coaching skills, local children learn to enjoy riding and reap the health benefits both physically and mentally including children with mental health and behavioural problems. Adrian was accompanied by Ken Floyde, founder of the Brixton BMX club, who is thrilled that the next generation of club leader has been formally recognised by the Borough. Adrian’s award was presented by Cllr Paul McGlone.
BPCP was nominated in the ‘community organisation of the year award’. Our nomination demonstrates our commitment, drive and belief that open and accessible green space is vital for the health and well being of local residents; and that Brockwell Park continues to benefit all Lambeth residents without exception through a range of inclusive and fun community activities.
On a great evening for Lambeth Park groups, David Dandridge of Clapham Common Management Advisory Committee (Clapham Common’s Community Partner) won the Lord Scarman award for his work on the free annual ‘Common People’ event which brings the local community together.
